Looking for a team event where nobody stands by the wall clutching a cup of coffee? A tournament in inflatable balls turns departments into teams and bosses into easy targets – all within an hour. After a match like that, the conversation over dinner flows by itself.
Since 2010 we have been organising bumper ball for companies – from small teams to large groups. Below we show how to plan a tournament when your team is bigger than one pitch.
Why Bumper Ball Works for Team Building
- It levels the playing field – inside a ball, job title and fitness don’t matter. The intern can knock over the CEO (and usually does).
- It builds teamwork – to win, you have to communicate and play together.
- It gets introverts involved – no speeches or performing on stage; just get into the ball.
- It’s safe – the ball protects you from head to knees, and the referee enforces the rules.
- It makes paperwork easy – we issue VAT invoices.
How to Run a Tournament for a Large Group
10–12 people play on the pitch at the same time. We split larger groups into teams that take turns – while some battle on the pitch, the others cheer, rest and plan their tactics.
How many teams?
- 20–24 people – 4 teams of 5–6 players, a round robin or semi-finals and a final,
- 30–36 people – 6 teams, a group stage and a final,
- 40+ people – a tournament over several rounds or two separate sessions; we’ll prepare a custom schedule.
How much time to book?
The standard is one hour of ball and venue hire. For a large tournament it’s worth extending the game by 30 minutes or more – that way every team plays several matches. We’ll agree the timing together when we prepare the quote.
Sample schedule (24 people, 90 minutes)
- 0:00–0:10 – briefing and warm-up,
- 0:10–0:55 – group stage: matches between 4 teams, 7 minutes each,
- 0:55–1:15 – special competitions: captains’ Bubble Sumo and Last Man Standing,
- 1:15–1:30 – the final, awards and a group photo.

Games That Work Well for Team Building
- Match – the classic, where every foul ends in laughter.
- Bubble Sumo – a duel between two players in a circle, perfect for captains or a “director vs director” showdown.
- Bulldog – a player in the middle knocks over the runners, and everyone who falls joins them.
- Last Man Standing – five on five; if you’re knocked over, you’re out, and the last one standing wins.
- Rugby – ball in hand and a sprint to the end line through a thicket of bubbles.
